This is the rest of the interview =)
Do you have any advice for someone interested in having a career in the music industry?
Yea, make things happen for yourself. People who do the best bring things and skills to people. They make their presence known.
If you could do things all over again, would you pick the same path for yourself? Why?
Absolutely. Years ago I had to make some decisions I wasn't sure about; I think that's what it's all about. Making choices we aren't sure about is what brought me to where I am today. Those choices, as I look back, are so small compared to the big picture. Just a grain of sand.
How do current economic conditions affect your business?
Oh they have a huge affect. It's a trickle effect from the top down. We live on commercials. Like a few years ago, with the GM fold, it had a huge affect on us. The car industry in this area was greatly affected, and if they aren't making money, then we are cut from their budgeting costs. They do less promotions, so they pull their radio ads. That's money for us.
What are the salary ranges for various levels in this field?
It really just depends on the region and the market size. In Blackburg, VA, or Baltimore, MD it might be $25-30,000 as opposed to New York being around $60,000.
Are there any other questions I should be asking?
Well, it seems you've covered quite a lot. Maybe more on Ratings and the importance of keeping a brand recognition in the community. If our brand is not solid, we lose ratings; if logo is consistent, it portrays a solid image. It all comes down to your brand and station identification.
Who are some other people I should interview?
Broadcast facilities, PR firms, a production director. You really should get in touch with Gene Peterson Design, it's a PR firm here in Frederick. They do alot with working with companies and designing for them, as well as some consulting. They would be an invaluable source for you.
